Day 3 – Shantou

I left Xiamen and travelled to Shantou, Guangzhou by fast speed rail. The seat is comfortable and pleasant. Hot water dispenser is available on board the train and passengers cooked instant noodles for a quick meal. So the whole carriage smells of exotic flavours.

To make travelling lighter and easier, I couriered my larger luggage to Guangzhou 5 days in advance. Hopefully, it will be at the intended hotel when I arrive 5 days later. This inter city convenience costs only RMB 25.

My first stop is the old city of shantou. This used to be the commercial district and is full of unique architecture with western influence.

In olden days, you can only get foreign goods here. Stuff like a sewing machine was considered a luxury and is available only here. Now it is full of cafes, restaurants and the typical touristy shops.

I was rather tired after all the travelling and walking. Therefore, I decided to head back early. That proves to be a wonderful decision because ordering food delivery is fast and convenient here. I get to eat food from the local rated eateries and ma ma mia! Better than fancy restaurants featured by social media.

Seafood wrapped in steamed rice flour batter
Red bean soup with dumplings filled with sesame and candied melon
Bean curd with Yam puree
Deep fried tubers coated with candied icing.

All of these including delivery cost less than USD 10 and are delivered right to your room, piping hot.

So if you want to try street food and are lazy to navigate from store to store, why not follow me- kn front of TV.

Felt like an emperor as the food appears one after another at the doorstep. Thanks to the delivery robot.

May all be well and happy.
