Day 2: Its fun getting lost

Mountain City Walk

Shibati Traditional scenic site showcase the traditional aspect of Chongqing culture. In the ancient past, there used to be a well that was the only source of water for inhabitants here. 18 steps lead to this well and that is how this place was named.

White elephant apartment.

The Baixiangju, or “White Elephant Apartment,” in Chongqing has gained fame as a tourist attraction after residents began sharing their daily experiences online. This unique apartment complex offers a fascinating glimpse into life in a mountain city. Depending on which exit you take, you can find yourself on entirely different street levels.

Built to adapt to the region’s hilly terrain, the ground floor of one building might align with the 18th floor of its neighboring structure. This ingenious design, shaped by the natural landscape, replaces conventional streets with a network of stairs and bridges that connect the buildings, showcasing the innovative urban planning characteristic of Chongqing.

It was a day of endless walking and stairs climbing. Thankfully, the weather is 8 degrees celcius now. I think summer would be a nightmare.

It is a unique experience to see some residents converting their homes into retail space and cafe for tourists.

Some homes are built against cliff walls and have no sunlight. Some caves are converted into shops or restaurants.

It was an amazing experience to understand relativity in real life.
