Exploring China for year end vacation.

Tomorrow marks the beginning of an exciting journey as I embark on a vacation to China! I’ve long admired Chinese culture, and I think my love for it stems from my addiction to Chinese drama series and animation. Beyond entertainment, Chinese Buddhism has been a profound source of inspiration and motivation for me, making this trip even more meaningful.

Starting My Journey in Chongqing

My adventure begins in Chongqing, famously known as the “5D City.” This sprawling metropolis, built atop hilly terrain and intersected by rivers, boasts a multi-dimensional urban landscape that’s unlike anywhere else. I’m particularly excited to visit two iconic sites:

  • HongYa Cave: A stunning riverside complex of traditional-style buildings that light up beautifully at night, creating a magical, almost cinematic atmosphere.
  • Dazu Rock Carvings: This UNESCO World Heritage site features intricate Buddhist grottoes that date back to the 9th century, showcasing the artistry and spiritual depth of Chinese Buddhism.

Anticipating Snow for the First Time

One of the most thrilling aspects of this trip is the possibility of experiencing snowfall for the first time! The thought of seeing snowflakes drift down and blanketing the ground fills me with childlike wonder. To make this moment even more special, I’m bringing a mold to create Buddha images in the snow. Imagine crafting a serene snow Buddha—a perfect blend of creativity and spirituality.

Exploring Wuhan, Nanjing, and Shanghai

After Chongqing, my journey will take me to Wuhan and Nanjing, before concluding in the bustling metropolis of Shanghai just in time to celebrate the New Year 2025. Each city has its own charm and historical significance, and I can’t wait to soak it all in.

Pilgrimage Highlights

Among the many highlights of my trip, two stand out as deeply spiritual experiences:

  1. Mount Jiuhua: Renowned as one of the Four Sacred Mountains of Buddhism in China, this pilgrimage site is dedicated to Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva. I’m looking forward to offering my prayers and finding peace in its serene surroundings.
  2. Mount Niushou: This sacred site houses a relic believed to be part of Shakyamuni Buddha’s skull bone. Visiting here will be a profoundly humbling and awe-inspiring moment.

Blogging My Journey

I’m also excited to document my travels and share my experiences daily. I hope there won’t be any issues with accessing WordPress in China so I can keep my blog updated with stories, photos, and reflections from each day of this incredible trip.

Final Thoughts

As I pack my bags and prepare for this adventure, I can’t help but feel immense gratitude for the opportunity to explore a country so rich in history, culture, and spirituality. Here’s to new experiences, unforgettable memories, and a journey that’s sure to be transformative in more ways than one. Stay tuned for updates from China!

May all be well and happy.
