These ghosts are attracted to incense and sweet smelling stuff. May possess supernatural power and fool people into worshiping them, thus offering smoke and incense.

The difference between whether we are the master of a ritual dispensing offerings to help a ghost or whether we are bewitched into becoming attached to smoke offering rituals is a fine line. It depends on our state of mind.

That is why, in the youth camp, the monk advise us not to engage in any form of rituals associating with ghostly beings unless we are spiritually mature enough. In short, leave it to the experts.

Feed on the energy of wicked deeds conducted by people. These ghost also possess supernatural power and can influence weak minded people. Some people unwittingly pray to such beings believing that they are gods. Wickedness comes in many form.Sometimes wicked deeds are done in the name of religions. So don’t be too sure that one is lead by a god/Buddha if one’s deeds result in the sufferings of others (physically or mentally)

People who practice dark magic tend to invoke these beings to further their wicked agenda.

Another type of ghost with supernatural power. They are constantly suffering from being burn. They hunt for opportunity to negatively influence people’s mind or suck their energy. ( It is uncommon for their success, that’s why they are tormented. )

I think in the western spiritualism, they are called energy vampire.

If someone is down and depressed, and standard medical treatment doesn’t help. Try bringing them to close proximity of a holy person (full of good energy). If they recover for no apparent reason, then there is a high chance that they are victims of such ghost. Don’t stop the medical treatment. However, it is time to include spiritual treatment too.

Ultimately, the patient has to develop a strong mind. When the ghosts can no longer feed, they will not be attached and will leave. So we usually, advice the person to adopt a simple practice like chanting and loving kindness meditation.

These ghost resides in cave and underground places. They have supernatural ability to develop epidemic.

Some spiritual practitioners indulge in ritualistic prayers in cavern and underground places to associate with such beings.

These ghosts have immense supernatural powers and live in deep mountains or remote site. They also suffer but compared to other ghosts, they have it easier. Many people mistaken such beings as gods or divine beings.

These ghost suffers because their body is aflame. This is a retributional rebirth for people who loot and rob others. Including corrupt people in powerful position who “loot” from others.

These ghost are attracted by the excrement of infant and may linger around a crib. It is uncommon for their success (Unless you have a mother who enjoy leaving her baby in poo, that’s why they are tormented.)

Sometimes when an infant keeps crying for no apparent reasons (not because they are unwell or sick) over a period of time, Buddhist practitioners may place an image of Buddha at the crib and recite the refuge prayer on behalf of the infant. The crying stop immediately. It is believed that the infant may be uncomfortable due to a ghostly presence.

These ghost can shift their appearance to bewitch people into sexual arousal. They feed on the energy of lust and also life energy. (It is uncommon for their success,that’s why they are tormented.)

Similar to incubus except that the scripture states that they can assume the forms of any gender and appearance.

They suffer from intense thirst and intense environmental factors. Morning dew is their food and source of relief. They reside in uninhabited island.

Retributional rebirth for people who profit by abusing the dire situations of travellers and refugees.

These are ghost but with official assignments to handle / manage other ghosts. Sufferings exist for these beings too.

Some non-buddhist people pray to them intentionally because they are more “stable”and possess supernatural power. Due to their assignments, they linger amongst the human world.

The monks advise us not to associate with such beings as it will build an affinitive with them. Buddhist wish to avoid the ghost realmin their next rebirth and therefore avoid such association. Association creates familiarity and attachment.

People who pray to such beings tend to see them at their deathbed.
